things i dig, part I

i recently found this list on my myspace page.
basically it's pretty self-explanatory, it's just a list of things that i really dig, and things that make me happy.

i first published this list on March 21st, 2007, and not everything on the list is still relevant, there's actually quite a few things on this list that could make me very unhappy.

but i'm posting it as-is again here for archival purposes.

i guess my favourite thing about this list, and the other soon-to-published instalments, is that once i started writing a list of things in this life that made me smile and concentrating on the positive things, anything even slightly negative just gets forgotten about...

sunshine . coca cola burning the back of your throat . clean sheets on a freshly-made bed . plain white paper . english breakfast tea . bare feet . taking photos of everything and nothing . that first headfirst plunge into a cold ocean . in-flight movies . in-flight anything . playing tennis - poorly . long showers . anything that's cooked in an oven . sand so hot it burns your feet . mates you'd cop a bullet for . that 'V' leading into a dude's pants . views of a big city at night . your mum's spag bol . a fuck-off bag of lollies . a drawer-full of clean undies, and choosing to free-ball it . bonds singlets . licking the spoon you used to make a cake . making a cake . a cop pulling you over for speeding, then sending you on your way with just a warning . nights out with mates that make you wish no-one had a home to go to so you all had to chill together forever . learning a foreign language . using that foreign language . people with smiles that light up a room . sand in your speedos . a push-bike down a massive hill . porridge in winter . air conditioning . a mind-blowing steak . well, a mind-blowing anything . a dog that races up to you when you get home . speed streamers on your handlebars . spokey-dokeys . mail from friends in your letter-box . slurpees . blurry photos . belly button lint . sitting on the roof of a ute driving off-road to a beach party in thailand . the smell of bread being baked . awkward first dates . fourteen-hour train trips where your seat converts into a bed . people who make your life better just by being in it . driving your brother's ute . your one-year old nephew wanting to share his sloppy vegemite sandwich with you . your dad teaching you how to lobster hunt in papua new guinea . hot towels straight out of the dryer . playing the harmonica - poorly . saying "not" at the end of a sentence, and still finding it funny . friendship rings . a deck of uno cards . sunsafe cabanas . christ the redeemer statue in brazil . the smell of someone else's clothes . your mum finishing the last part of the scarf you knitted . a book that keeps you up all night cos you just can not put it down . cheating while playing "marco polo" . a shitload of dvd's in bed on a rainy day . coconut oil . coconut anything . finding a penny, picking it up, but not having much luck . big beach towels . oprah winfrey . my god, oprah winfrey . old, leather-bound books . three-hour-long phone calls . vanilla ice-cream, a la naturelle . discovering the hard way that i can survive on next to no dollars . maps . killing it at trivial pursuit . polaroids . climbing in trees . coming from a small town, living in a big city, and still being able to love both of them . fish fingers under the griller . expensive denim . ridiculously cheap denim . watching a mate's band play . riding horses at high speeds . falling off horses, and getting up and being able to laugh . the overwhelming need to rip your shirt off in a nightclub . having a stranger unload their problems onto you . raiding your dad's wardrobe and finding a killer shirt . raiding your mum's wardrobe and finding a killer shirt . cheap petrol . short shorts . a three-day stint down a river on a houseboat with ten mates, with no-one on board really knowing how to steer it . getting a head massage at the hairdresser's . a stack of magazines i haven't read yet . a long freeway with fleetwood mac playing on my ipod . old, huge sandstone buildings . massive big breakfast fry-ups on a massive weekend . guys who don't play games . annihilating a dozen krispy kreme donuts and refusing to vomit afterwards . malibu and cranberry . a roast dinner on a tray slide from an RSL . the lyrics to pink's "love song" .
