hamburgular

ah yes, hamburg! my favourite of all the places i've visited in Germany (yes, all three of them)

it was significantly colder than when i visited last time, in fact it was positively freeeeeezing, which meant there were a lot less people milling about on the streets, and socialising on park benches drinking beer, which is what had made me fall in love with this place last time around.
but after having made such a solid first impression on my last visit, i was content to walk about in the fresh, frosty air and take in the sights (and given that i spend most of my time in a desert city, i really don't mind a short stint in the cold every now and then)

a mostly uneventful trip for me, with most of my time spent inside the shops or in a starbucks, which is all good and well for me, but doesn't exactly make for terribly exciting photos for you...i didn't even manage to attempt a kick at a pigeon -- maybe the word is spreading around, and they know to avoid me now, ha!

mambo in colombo

(not to be confused with Colombia: the country in South America.
nor is it to be confused with Columbo: the American TV detective...this blog is about neither of those two things)

ooooh these short little blog entries are a delight -- so easy to post, so few photos!

this was my first time to colombo, sri lanka, but there was speculation of bomb threats in the centre of town, a 40-minute bus ride away.
...and i mean, while i find myself to be an inquisitive little fellow, i really didn't need much of an excuse to stay poolside at the hotel, rather than venturing into town to risk a bomb explosion.

i did take a small stroll to the corner store just so i could say that i'd been somewhere and what i saw was nice enough...

i'm told there's an elephant orphanage that is a few hours away from where we stay, and i would've killed to get there to play with the elephants, but no one else was interested in coming with me, and i didn't feel like spending the US$80 each way by myself in the taxi. god, that'd buy me a new pair of Converse All-Stars and the new Mary-Kate & Ashley Olsen book., and about 100 pirated DVD's.
i was very impressed that i was able to find a fridge magnet for my collection, wasn't sure they'd make them.
dinner was at a great restaurant right on the sand at the beach, it's real popular with the crew who visit colombo...Coconut King, or King Coconut, or Krispy Coconut Kreme or something like that. i got proper eaten alive by mosquitoes while i was there, even though i followed the the instructions on the tube of insect repellant and "spread it liberally" all over my limbs
